Launching soon: A National Support Service for Community Ownership across Wales

DTA Wales is pleased to announce that we have secured funding through The National Lottery Community Fund’s “Supporting Great Ideas” programme to deliver the Collaborative Community Ownership Support Service (C-COSS).

C-COSS is a specialist support service helping communities in Wales take on, protect and manage the local assets that matter to them – from land and buildings to vital community spaces. In doing so, it will support stronger local resilience, help communities safeguard valued places, and contribute to building and retaining wealth within communities.

From shops and pubs to children’s centres, village halls, arts spaces, farmland and forestry, these assets play a vital role in shaping wellbeing, identity, and long-term local prosperity. As demand for community-led ownership continues to grow across Wales, C-COSS will help lay the foundations for more resilient asset-owning communities, a stronger network of peer learning between these communities and stakeholders, and a more connected voice for community ownership across our nation.

C-COSS will act as a connected system of support for community ownership. It will offer practical and tailored support, resources, and learning opportunities to help communities navigate community ownership, while also serving as a shared hub of knowledge and experience.

Delivered collaboratively by DTA Wales, alongside Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT), Building Communities Trust (BCT), and Institute of Welsh Affairs (IWA), C-COSS brings together over a decade of experience in supporting Welsh communities to take on and manage local assets, rooted in a long-standing commitment to enabling communities to support one another through shared learning and practice. At the programmes heart is a belief that communities learn best from communities, with shared experience and collaboration forming the foundation of the approach.

We are recruiting two roles to support the delivery of C-COSS:

  • C-COSS Coordinator: 4 days a week – Leading on the day-to-day delivery and coordination of the programme.
  • Facilities Management Advisor (Community Buildings): 3 days a week – Supporting community groups with the practical tools and guidance needed to manage and sustain community buildings.
