Asedau Ni: Support for communities securing the future of the places that matter to them

September 23, 2026

Launching 1st October 2026

A community pub, village hall, shop or woodland can be much more than a building or piece of land. They are places where people meet, services are provided, memories are made and local life happens – creating spaces for connection and belonging, supporting wellbeing, and helping communities retain value and shape their own futures.

Across Wales, communities are finding ways to take on and secure important local assets, helping to keep vital services, facilities and opportunities available locally for years to come. But taking on an asset is a significant step, bringing practical questions and challenges along the way.

Providing the expertise, support and tools for community-led assets.

Launching on 1 October, Asedau Ni (meaning “our assets” in Welsh) is a national support service for communities looking to take on, protect and manage local assets, (formerly known as the Collaborative Community Ownership Support Service).

Led by DTA Wales and delivered in partnership with Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Building Communities Trust and the Institute of Welsh Affairs, Asedau Ni brings together practical support, specialist knowledge and shared learning to help communities navigate their asset journey.

From community shops and pubs to village halls, children’s centres, arts spaces, farmland and forestry, the service will help communities make the most of these assets and support their long-term sustainability.

A central hub for practical support

Taking on an asset can be exciting, but it can also feel like a lot to get your head around. Where do you start? What do you need to consider? How do you make an asset financially and environmentally sustainable? What about the building itself, governance, funding or day-to-day management?

Asedau Ni has a dedicated team to help communities work through these questions.

Alongside tailored support, Asedau Ni will provide a full library of practical resources, soon to be available on our website, bringing useful knowledge and experience together in one place.

For communities taking on buildings, a dedicated Facilities Manager will offer specialist support on the practicalities of managing and maintaining community buildings.

There will also be events and learning opportunities throughout the programme, creating space for people involved in community assets to share experiences, ask questions and learn from what others have done.

And for communities that aren’t sure where to begin, Asedau Ni will provide a clear point of contact – someone to help you find the right information, understand what support is available and work out what your next step could be.

Communities learning from communities

At the heart of Asedau Ni is a simple idea: communities learn best from communities.

There is a growing wealth of experience across Wales from people who have already taken on and manage local assets. Asedau Ni will help bring that experience together, connecting communities, practitioners and organisations so that knowledge can be shared and lessons learned.

Alongside practical support, the service will help build a stronger network around community ownership – making it easier for people to find information, learn from one another and understand the opportunities available to them.

Ultimately, Asedau Ni is about helping communities build the knowledge, confidence and capacity to make decisions about the assets around them – supporting stronger, more resilient communities and helping local value stay local.

Launching officially at DTA Wales’s Autumn Conference 2026 (20th October, Tŷ Pawb, Wrexham)

Our session, “Asedau Ni: Working Together to Preserve the Assets Our Communities Need”, will introduce the new service, the support available and how communities can get involved. It will be a chance to explore the challenges and opportunities around community assets, hear more about the practical support on offer, and mark the start of a new chapter of support for communities across Wales. Book your place now!

Asedau Ni launches on 1 October. More information, resources and details of how communities can access support will be available soon.
