Porthcawl Maritime Centre – Planning Approved!

Plans for Porthcawl Maritime Centre (one of the CAT2 Projects we are working with) have been given approval by Bridgend Councillors.

The revised plans for the complex which is to be built on the Cosy Corner site will include a coastal science and discovery centre, cafe, wine bar, roof terrace and microbrewery. The main building will also include space for the Sea Cadets, the Welsh Surfing Federation, the harbourmaster’s offices and the armed forces charity, SSAFA.

In addition, there will be an outdoor performance space with seating and the option of a covered canopy. A memorial to the 47 victims of the Samtampa tragedy in 1947, when a ship ran aground at Sker Point during a gale, is also planned.

The site will be leased to Credu Charity by Bridgend Council, which owns the site. The project has been supported and funded by Visit Wales, the European Regional Development Fund, Big Lottery and NatWest Social & Community Capital.

The project is already providing benefits to the local community and will now gain momentum. It is hugely gratifying for us to be part of Porthcawl’s transformation.”
